{"id":2081,"date":"2026-07-24T17:14:05","date_gmt":"2026-07-24T15:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.pcjv.de\/?page_id=2081"},"modified":"2026-07-24T17:14:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T15:14:13","slug":"hercules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pcjv.de\/?page_id=2081","title":{"rendered":"hercules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/CWBudde\/hercules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hercules<\/a> is a tool for fast, insightful and highly customizable Git history analysis: it replays a repository&#8217;s entire commit history in a single pass and extracts analyses from it &mdash; project burndown, code ownership, churn, coupling, bus factor, structural hotness, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A revival<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The original <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/src-d\/hercules\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">src-d\/hercules<\/a> was left behind when the company behind it wound down. My fork brings it back to life: a modernized Go toolchain, working CI, a GitHub Action, analysis presets, caching, and a stream of fixes and new analyses on top of the original engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eating my own dog food<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plotting side is where my projects converge: charts are rendered through <a href=\"\/?page_id=2080\">matplotlib-go<\/a>, my own plotting library, and <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/CWBudde\/labours-go\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labours-go<\/a> reimplements the original Python companion tool in Go.
